Why journaling?
While those of you tried-and-true journalers are champing-at-the-bit + scrolling down for the prompts, some of you might be still dipping your toes into the journal water, so to speak. You might be wondering why you should even try journaling at all. Before we move on to the prompts for getting unstuck, I'll drop a few reasons to journal:
1. Journaling brings clarity. When you are confused or overwhelmed, sometimes it is hard to know what you really want or think. Journaling can help you sort your thoughts on paper.
2. Journaling brings awareness. It is easy to lie to yourself! Its easy to stuff your emotions down + pretend everything is fine. Spending time journaling can help bring those things you don't want to face (but really need to) to the surface.
3. Journaling provides catharsis. The feeling you get when you express what you've been holding back. Relief, release, a way to let go of what has been bugging you.

What do I need to get started?
To get started, all you need is a piece of a paper and a few minutes of time. You don't need a fancy journal or an extensive morning routine to start journaling. Just get out your pen + dedicate a few minutes + you are ready to rock.
OF COURSE, it will be the most helpful if you have a "dedicated" practice of journaling--a time/place/method set aside for you to do this on a regular basis (whatever that means for you). But any journaling is better than no journaling, so if you feel intimidated by the idea of consistency, don't pressure yourself to make this a repeatable exercise.
Why am I stuck?
Thats the million dollar question, isn't it? In my experience with clients, it usually boils down to one (or a combination of) these 4 things:
1) You have self talk + beliefs about yourself that tell you you're not up for the task, you might do it wrong, you might fail, you don't know what you are doing, you shouldn't bother, etc.
2) You have self talk + beliefs about others that makes you worry about other people's opinions, believe that they are saying mean things about you, that you have to take care of their needs instead of your own.
3) You are spending a lot of time planning future steps + imagining what that would be like but not spending time in the present actually doing the things that will lead you to that ideal future.
4) You are spinning in indecision + "what if" scenarios trying to figure out all the options, getting overwhelmed by decision making, and constantly second-guessing yourself.
These are the problems that journaling will help you sort out!
